Internet keeps disconnecting and modem restarts when the temperature gets too high.
My internet keeps getting disconnected at random times thorughout the day. This has been happening for the past 2 years every summer when the temperature starts to rise. The random disconnects stop around September -October when the temperatures go down. I use an Arris SB6190 modem connected to one splitter. The problem, as far as I've been able to tell from my research, is the upstream connection. The power normally sits around 48-50dBmV, but right before it disconnects, it shows at over 51, with not all channels connecting. At that point, the modem usually resets. My understanding is that the modem is having trouble communicating with the Cox servers, so it needs to increase the signal strength. Hello Everyone, As the summer heat has appeared I have begun to experience connection outages later in the day, especially when it is very hot. These outages can last from 10 minutes to over 3 hours. I have had a technician visit my apartment to verify that my modem as well as the cable coming from my wall are all functioning correctly. As an outage was not occurring while the tech was here nothing was solved. I have come to the conclusion that a poor signal quality my be to blame for my issue and I have attached a screenshot of my modem's signal diagnostics page. These are from this afternoon and reflect the levels that I usually get. I am fairly certain that the power levels shown are outside of the acceptable range and that this my be the cause of my problem. I unfortunately have no idea how to fix this. I was told by the tech that visited my home that all of the cable in the walls is suitable and that there is no problem with my modem. Is the signal strength as shown causing my issue? If so what can I do to remedy this problem? How can the quality of the signal be improved? The constant afternoon outages make it very difficult to work on any of my projects so I am desperate for a fix. Whith the weekly "black screen" effect application by Cox tonight, (been hapenning for years) I decided to to go to support to see if they were owning up to transmission issues. Of course, you have to go through the "its your fault, stupid user" routine first. The final step was to remove power from the cable box. The Cisco HD box is slightly warm to the touch only in an area right under the power supply. The Scientific Atlanta HD box, however, was VERY hot all over, and the bottom plate was hot enough to burn my fingers when I tried to pick it up. (Had to use a pot holder to hold it long enough to be able to pull the power cord from the back). Every Sci Atl box I have had over the years runs extremely hot, even in standby, but this is the first one that was "burning hot" and this one is a "newer model" I got a short time ago when an older version failed outright.
