Question about fiber optic internet for home
I have a question about the internet speed if I have fiber optic in my home. I live in a new neighborhood with only fiber-optic service from COX (I don't have COAX from COX). When the tech guy installed the internet for me, he told me that my upload speed can go up to 500Mbps if I upgrade to 500Mbps download speed. However, when I tried to upgrade my internet speed with representatives (I tried several times), all of them said that my upload will still be 10Mbps. I am very confused and wondering which one is correct information. Could anyone tell me? Thanks!Solved882Views0likes2CommentsUpload Intermittently Slows to a Crawl for Gigablast
Hello, The Gigablast internet service I have hasn't been working well lately at all. The download is fine, but the upload has been slowing to a crawl at times. It's getting to the point where there are periods I cannot work. This has been going on for a couple weeks too. Yesterday morning (10/5) I couldn't get it to upload faster than 0.1~0.2Mbps. Then around 10:00 am the regular 35 Mbps speed resumed.I called support a couple times and was told I do have some packet loss, but everything else looked fine. Everything came back to normal after a few hours. Today (10/6) everything has been fine until this evening, and it seems like only partial content loads on web pages and the upload is slightly faster at 1.1 Mbps. It happens though wired, wifi, and direct connect to a PC connection to the modem. Would congestion have it so wildly change like that? https://imgur.com/99cElo2 I ran a tracert and I seem to be getting some packet loss or slowdown. This is going to cox.net. https://imgur.com/nRvb9Wo I have a Motorola MB8611 and no events are showing up in this timeframe.I just find it odd that the download works perfectly fine and only the upload is affected. I get around 10 MPS, complain on their web chat, it magically goes up to 179 MPS until the next day when it's back down to 12 MPS. I pay for 150 MPS. My equipment is new and up to date (I'm a 17 year IT professional). COX says it doesn't throttle (limit speeds), I say they do. A few months back they said big changes were coming to my area, south eastern Virginia and their would be interruptions.I assumed they were replacing cable with fiber. Seems their big change was to get much lower than paid for Internet speeds. Also, why is it when there is an outage, I have to phone them to get a credit for it. They now when service is down. How about if I don't pay them for days I don't use the Internet, would they appreciate that? I pay for 24/7 service. I understand issues occur, but when they do a responsible company would make it right and not have the customer call and beg for a credit.924Views0likes1CommentI have the unlimited data plan for $50 each month yet cox reduced my gigablast plan to 50m download 3m upload which is completely inadequate, for 90 days because they think I am HARMING others connection in the neighborhood
I purchased the unlimited plan because I need to use a lot of data and you are saying I'm actually not allowed to do that? the person also in a insulting manner say he could not remove the limit nor could his fu**** supervisor. just because they see my usage as not appropriate they punish me? and btw they formally downgraded my service so it's not me "feeling like" it is throttling. anyone has the same problem?812Views0likes2Comments
