Contour DVR is garbage
This will be a major rant. We moved into our new house 2 years agon and since then nothing but issues with Contour's so called DVR. At the time we signed up for it nobody said anything about it being a cloud DVR (guess I should have researched it more). We came over from Directv because att was a major pain to deal with on billing but it seems Cox has followed in their footsteps. My issues are as follows. 1. Recordings are cut short and not by just a minute or 2 but a 1 hour show records 5 secs, a few minutes and then just stops recording. 2. Trying to rewind or fast forward a show at least 50% of the time results in delay and the screen appears to freeze and then the message that says there was an issue on our end or restart the box and tighten the connections on the box and at the wall. This is a major load of ** from COX which is nothing more than an excuse for old, outdated and crappy equipment. 3. Also whenever the internet goes down we cannot watch anything since the so called dvr is in the cloud and not a physical drive so there in lies another issue. In my opinion if I wanted to stream everything which in case you did not realize it yet is exactly what you are doing, the contour box is nothing more than a large oversized Amazon Firestick, Roku Box or any of many streaming devices. Oh and the picture quality on my 4k tv ** since I just discovered COXis downgrading the video to 720. 4. If I call in or chat with someone the first thing they say is we need to restart your box and if I hear that again I will explode and at this moment I am about to throw COX in the garbage and go somewhere else where at least I will get the same crappy billing issues and most likely service as well and by the way I do not like Century Link for internet because of the issues we had when they were qwest. End of rant2.5KViews1like5CommentsALL Cox Channels Have DISAPPEARED!!
Turn on the cable box and all you see is COX and five blocks through which a blue block keeps cycling, then an "Info" banner that says the signal is "temporarily unavailable - watch another channel" except ALL the channels say the same thing. Try to reset the cable box and of course COX says, "Outage in you area. We will fix it as soon as we can". But its going into the second day. Off course, being an unregulated government sanctioned monopoly, NO CREDIT FOR DAYS OF LOST SERVICE will be offered AND NO RUSH TO FIX IT WILL BE MADE. Twice in the last two months we were told of a planned outage to upgrade the system so we would have oh, so much better service (even though it is still worse, more unreliable, more intermittent than in the days of analog service in the 80's and 90's). Once by email, it would happen on July 6, they said. WRONG! On July 8, they email to say the wonderful update was done, and oh how lucky we are to NOW have such great reliable service. WRONG - NEVER HAPPENED! Then by door hanger on July 27. WRONG - NEVER HAPPENED! So is this >24 hour outage supposed to be the 6-hour outage that never happened? I doubt it! IT IS JUST A CONTINUED ABUSE OF CUSTOMERS SUBJECTED TO A GOVERNMENT GRANTED TV AND INTERNET MONOPOLY IN AN AREA WHERE THERE IS NO OTA CAPABILITY, AND COX HAS "CONVINCED" LOCAL OFFICIALS TO DENY PERMITS FOR COMPETITORS WHO WANTED TO RUN FIBRE-OPTIC FOR COMPETING SERVICES. "COX" - say it out loud - its all in the name.1.9KViews0likes6CommentsMusic Choice screen shots are too bright! How can I listen for relaxation when screen photos have such harsh light. Is there a way to make screen darker while listening?
Who do i talk to about changing their screen shots to a nighttime listening mode? Is there a way to control it myself ?2KViews0likes5CommentsAmplifier recommendation?
We have been at this location almost 11 years and have had pretty perfect COX signal levels, never below -4. Although after switching to HD /DVR and installing the Scientific Atlanta 8300 boxes...we are as of today on our FIFTH box. FOUR have failed. Anyway, the signal recently dropped to around -8 to -9 and both of our set-top boxes drop and tile, and even straight into the set, the digital channels freeze. We did have COX service out here twice and since the signal into the house was (above -10) they are "within spec". I have a quad-shield RG6 going through the rest of the house with two taps in the path. Hence, the end of line is now below -10. (actually -14). His answer was to replace all the cable in the house. This is where the visit went downhill fast. I was sleeping as I had worked all night from being called in. So he couldn't get in the back. Since he didn't 'get his way' he will NOT come back here (good) and he threatened that if we called anyone from COX back out here we would be charged and they would take our equipment and disconnect us. Ok, go kick sand in someone Else's face. My instinct says ditch COX and go dish, but overall, I am happy with the channels and internet speed. I searched this forum for an answer to this question, but I see questions like this get diverted or quickly locked (censored) by the COX moderator. Any helpwould be greatly appreciated. I am very familiar with higher end products (like Blonder Tongue) but am not familiar with consumer products. Can anyone here recommend a good amp that can be used on a COX residential, drop with obviously NO return path change (don't want to alter ANYTHING going back into their system). Adjustable slope would be nice too. I don't think any consumer low-end product has slope trim. Their slope at the drop is also way off. Adjustable would be ideal, or something fixed around +6 to +10. Thanks in advance everyone !11KViews0likes5CommentsLow signal levels
.I had a tech come out and check the incoming signal level (5db) and he indicated that was normal. He gave me a better grade cable to route around the room with the cable modem and it brought up the signal by 1.5db. Now my cable modem is reporting -13.5db which is acceptable but it is connected to the first cable splitter coming into the house. My problem is I have 3 tv connections requiring additional splitters and the bedroom TV gets a bad digital signalson several channels. I have a 12db cable amplifier which is rated +12db for 50-900MHz. Is this bandwidth enough for Digital cable? I tied adding it directly in the cable modem coax line to try it out and the modem showed a great signal but the internet was dead for some reason (no upstream path??).. Would this be Ok on just the TV portion of the system? House was wired in 1998 so the cabling shouldn't be too bad.2.1KViews0likes1Commentdigital tiling and momentary screen freeze
My tv is getting a digitizing tiling effect and momentary screen freeze in 5 or so minute intervals. All connections seem to be in order. It mainly is on Golf Channel 1078. No other channel does it. I've been a loyal customer for many many years. If there is one channel that I watch more than the Weather Channel it's this one. It started about a month ago. Any ideas on how to fix this problem is appreciated. Thanks.2.6KViews0likes2CommentsCable Box Explorer 8240HDC EXTREME ISSUES
I've had Cox cable and internet now for a little over a month and am COMPLETELY unhappy with the service I am receiving and paying for. The internet is perfect and fast, but the cable is an entirely different story. Almost every single hour, exactly 60 minutes, the cable is completely unwatchable. The picture will just freeze over and over, or continue to loop the same 10-15 seconds of a show, or just black out all together. I'll get online, order a signal reset and wait for it to boot back up, then 1 hour later it is doing the EXACT same thing. I have called Cox, spoke with technical support, followed all instructions to the T. I even went as far as removing the cable splitter and replacing all cables. I agreed to a 2 year contract with you Cox, but I will NOT continue to pay for such sub par service, no matter what. I have emailed Cox multiple times, called them multiple times, yet still no resolution. This is hands down some of the worst customer service I have ever seen before. If someone is paying $100 a month for services, they better be getting their money's worth! It has gotten to the point where I would much rather watch Netflix or rent a redbox as opposed to watching this ridiculous excuse for television. If anyone else has been having these issues, please respond and tell me if resolution was reached! I am in San Diego, CA if that helps.3.2KViews0likes2CommentsON DEMAND menu sizing issue
The picture on my TV fits the TV perfectly, except when I'm in the ON DEMAND menu. Then, the picture expands beyond the boundaries of my TV and cuts off the text along the edges, making it difficult to scroll through the selections. Once a selection is made (such as a movie), the program is in the normal size and fits the screen. The only problem I have is in this regard is the ON DEMAND menu.2.2KViews0likes1CommentDVR and Cable TV Issue
My cable TV has been VERY inconsistent for about a week. Some TV stations will come in fine, and some I cannot even view. I have had between8and 10 DVR recordings fail. Sometimes rebooting the DVR will help. The internet has been unusable during this same timeframe. What could be the problem?4.4KViews0likes1CommentCMT channel 746
What is wrong with channel 746? All day today it has been blocked picture and skipping sound??? I have reset the cable box and have called Cox only to be on hold for a minimum of 30 minutes before hanging up. One of the few channels we watch on a consistant basis and I can't get any answers ..... not happy with Cox at the moment for the amount of money we pay for service. Is anyone else having trouble with the channel or is it just us?2.9KViews0likes2Comments
