How do I get a modem firmware upgrade or determine if it's possibly a service line issue?
Hi - I'm new to this, so please bear with me... I have Cox Premium internet and am using a Motorola SBG6580 modem with hardware version 3 and software version SBG6580-3.5.8.4-GA-00-505-NOSH. I've seen on various threads in the forum that an upgrade was able to be pushed out and service was improved. I've been having serious issues for some time now and am hoping the fix is as simple as that. If not, how do I determine if there is more to the problem than a firmware upgrade? I've been having to reset my modem frequently, the event log shows numerous 'critical errors', most being that it's not receiving a response for 'unicast maintenance ranging', 'sync failures', and multiple T3/T4/ errors (these are all "critical" - there are also some warnings and notices, but not as concerned about those).3.3KViews0likes4CommentsMotorola SBG6580 modem lacks upstream Channel Bonding and hangs on video play/page load.
I just bought a SBG6580 to comply with DOCSIS 3.0. Pages don't fully load. Videos won't play. Workflow is worse than DOCSIS 2.0. Here are the Error messages in the Router Log. On tech rep said he reviewed the version I have and noted there was a later revision that addressed upstream bonding problems. Another said COX does not provide firmware upgrades, in direct contradiction to Motorola, who says they legally can't upgrade firmware -- the ISP has to. The connection was 'flushed' and the account re-provisioned. Power cycled, all the usual suspects. The setup is straighforward. Cable to the router, no DTV splitters or signals, no other equipment attached to the router other than three client hardware via wireless IP. Despite significant speed increases in SpeedTest, the behavior of the system, particularly with pages that have, say, and instructional video, is worse. Pages hang. Load times vary. Videos don't play. Mail takes a long time to poll my servers. FTP is impossible unless I turn the firewall OFF, something I'm not keen to do. A ticket was made out, promises made and nothing has been done. The issue of getting the wireless router to work well with clients was solved by turning off IP Flood Detection in the Firewall section. I expect the Router to be the first line of defense, but it seems to only operate for FTP and other tools I need to do my job when the Firewall is off and there is no means for specifying a port to be opened for a service explicitly.11KViews0likes8CommentsRouter dropping all the time
I have my own Motorola SBG6580 on Cox Internet service. Our Internet connection drops all the time, 3 times today already. Sometimes it reconnects itself in a minute or two, sometimes I have to reboot the device. I called tech support and they said they didn't see any issues in our area and sent a reset signal. This has been going on since we moved into this house a month or so ago. Below are some of the logs I see, which sounds like a lot of people are getting with this modem. Is this a bad modem/router to have purchased? Or do these logs show something wrong with the connection to Cox? By the way, you'll notice in the last 2 entries, one say Time Stamp Not Established, those last two entries change every time this happens but it never retains the log from the previous error. Any ideas? I am having HUGE issues with my internet using my Linksys AE3000. My internal wireless adapter works on my laptop without any hangups or drops at all. My AE3000 when plugged in works for 5 minutes and freezes and has to be reset on both my desktop and laptop using newest drivers and old drives with doing fresh installs each time. I sent in 1 AE3000 to be replaced and the new one does the same thing. I even had it plugged into my laptop right next to the modem and still did it. Then when I unplugged it and turned on the laptops internal wireless the laptop worked fine. I have reformatted, released and refreshed my IP, direct connected cable modem to cable hardline with NO splitters, replaced AE3000 Unit, tested on two different computers which did not work, Internal laptop adapter works fine, uninstalled/deleted drivers/registrys and reinstalled fresh copys. Linksys support was worthless.
