Cox Gateway Port Blocking and macOS
I am trying to use VMware on my Mac to connect to my work VM. Every time I try to connect I get an error that the connection has timed out. If I use my iPhone as a hotspot instead of WiFiI can connect with no issues. Googled and found that it is probably blocked ports on the Cox side. I did set up port forwarding using the Cox WiFi app and I still can not connect. I have tried a bunch of different ports the last ones I tried are 443, 4172, 8443, and 22443. Using Microsoft Outlook for Mac version 16.54 Microsoft 365 and receiving bounce back when "New Outlook" toggled on but no bounce when toggled off. A Gmail account does not have the same issue. The bounce error is: SmtpSubmissionPermanent5XXException: Smtp submission failed. Server 'smtp.cox.net' Port '465'. --> Unexpected SMTP server response. Expected: 250, actual: 503, whole response: 503 not available Failure code: 5513 Updated the password per Cox' support site, but didn't resolve. When sending with the "New Outlook" toggled on, the above bounce happens but toggling off "New Outlook", email sends fine. No problem receiving emails either way. Checked for Office update and it says Office is up to date. Any suggestions?1.2KViews0likes0CommentsFor MAC users with Outlook 365 that want to transition from COX to Yahoo email
Below are a set of repeatable instructions for the transition from COX.net to yahoo.com email MS OUTLOOK 365 migration on MacBook; open Outlook Outlook > settings > personal settings/accounts Click “+” to add account lower left corner Enter Email address username@cox.net Click Continue Select “not IMAP?” in upper right corner and select “Y! Yahoo” Select “Sync to the Microsoft Cloud” by pressing “Continue” Log into Yahoo with email account & regular password ( and prove you are not a robot) Click “Agree”, if you agree Add a verification option if requested by Yahoo Access for MS Outlook > agree Select profile in MS Outlook if asked It isn’t working until you get a grayed out “Microsoft Sync technology” under the email address in the “accounts” settings (not sure why) This has now worked repeatably for me with 9 Cox email accounts199Views0likes1Comment
