DNS Resolution Issues through Cox servers
Lately I have been having issues with DNS resolution, and even connecting to certain sites using IP. For example: https://www.toyotafinancial.com/pub/home/ This page loads, but will not load the CSS that the page requires to display properly. The url for the CSS file is: https://www.sc.toyotafinancial.com/web/tfs/pub/home/css/bootstrap.css This happens with all browsers from my home computers. I believe it's a Cox DNS server issue because I can log on to my work VPN and access all pages on the toyotafinancial.com domain just fine. CSS files and everything else and the pages dispay properly. This is one example. It has been happens frequently with other site pages too. Is anybody else having issues like this?9KViews0likes3CommentsPoor DNS Intermittent service unavailable
I am running a new Arris (Motorola) Surfboard SBG6580 on a Windows 7 machine. This started in mid December and I had my network engineer son-in-law look at it. I have had Cox out once (his suggestion: change from Firefox to Chrome). When that did not work, I called Cox again. They wanted $60 to clean the malware. I ran four anti-malware apps, none of which found anything. The problem continues. When I call in, they want me to run Speedtest, which always tests excellent when they are on the line. It timed out on the ping while I was waiting on hold. As soon as they are on, it works fine. Same problem with a Win 8 Wi-Fi connected machine. I have replaced the modem. I can't find if this modem/router is caching the DNS, but I have the DNS pointing at Cox as a static DNS. Speedtest told me it was the fastest DNS for me. Cox tells me the modem has the latest software release. If I turn it off and back on, it will work great for about an hour, then goes south again. Don't think I should be resetting the modem each hour. Multiple calls to cox with no resolution. Not even an offer to change my route. I was told that the department in charge of fixing my issue is unreachable by me as a paying customer and as well as the employees of cox not being able to contact this so called department about my problem. Super frustrating that the phone representatives take us paying and knowledgeable customers as idiots and claim that there is nothing they can do to resolve an issue multiple people are having. This is a last chance effort on my part to see if someone is smart enough to help me with this issue as I have been a loyal customer for several years.5.3KViews0likes15CommentsCox / Netgear CG3000D-RG issues: DDNS setup missing!
Netgear CG3000D-RG issues: DDNS setup missing! I and a Cox internet customer from Henderson NV and have spent hours on the phone with Cox tech support trying to find a simple answer. I could never get through to anyone who even knows what Dynamic DNS is. Several years ago, I purchased a Netgear CG3000D-RG modem/router direct from Cox truck at installation time. Now, I need to implement DDNS so I can reliably remotely access my security / HVAC system after an IP address change. I do have a working DDNS service already setup with dyndns.org. I found that the identical router as supplied by Netgear supports DDNS and the factory manual clearly shows a DDNS setup function on the advanced menu. However, the router Cox sold me does not have the DDNS menu item listed. It is either not in the firmware or it has somehow been disabled. My Questions: Can Cox remotely enable the DDNS function? Or, Can I get new firmware that does? (I have heard that Cox can push new firmware to the modem) Or, is there a way that Cox can implement the DDNS direct to my dyndns.org account as an alternative" Why would Cox disable this essential feature? I know I can purchaser new hardware, but an extra expense when a simple solution should work. I hope someone can help. regards Bill4.1KViews0likes2CommentsIs there a cure for slow DNS lookups?
I'm having significant delays with my browsers (Firefox and Chrome) looking up Internet site addresses. Lookups often take 5 seconds or more, which is a lot when there are often 10-20 lookups required to assemble a single Web page (mostly to add advertisements...) I also have pretty frequent lookup failures (the browser reports that site can't be found -- even sites like Google and Yahoo.) I have my Internet connection set to automatically select DNS servers (per advice from Cox.) Is anyone else experiencing this? Any good ideas to speed things up? Thanks!3.7KViews0likes4CommentsSBG6580 firmware upgrade
What is the newest firmware upgrade available for the SBG6580? I'm on SBG6580-3.5.8.4-GA-00-505-NOSH, which is very old and does not allow me to configure my own DNS servers (OpenDNS). According to manufacturer guides, version 8.5.x provides this functionality. My current workaround is to disable DHCP and wireless and just use it in bridge mode as a modem and use a separate wireless router. But the wireless router has 100Mb interfaces, so I don't get the full 150Mb I should be getting. Please let me know if you can upgrade my modem to version 8.x, and if not, how soon this might be possible. Thanks.2.4KViews0likes2CommentsCan't open any cox pages via wi-fi using Motorola SGB6580
We recently purchased a Motorola SGB6580 modem/router combo and are unable to load any cox pages or connect to cox webmail using a wireless connection on the laptop or on the phone. We are able to open all other pages with no problem on the wireless connection. We can open cox pages on the computer when it is hardwired to the modem and on the phone when it is disconnected from the wi-fi connection. The problem is only related to cox pages when using the wi-fi connection. Is there a fix for this issue?1.7KViews0likes1CommentAccessing my employers intranet while VPNing, I cannot get to sites such as http://paystub
Instead I get redirected to the Cox search pages with results for "paystub" When I use this computer on Comcast or my AT&T hotspot, I don't have this problem and am properly redirected to my company's internal paystub site.1.7KViews0likes2Comments
