Record 6 DVR Simultaneous Recording
I have the Contour record 6 Cisco Explorer 9865HDC DVR and three client boxes, I believe they are Pace XiD HD models. The problem is, each client box uses one of the tuners on the record 6 DVR, no matter if the client box is actively viewing content or not. This means that if three shows are simultaneously recording on the DVR, you can not watch live TV using the record 6 DVR. The system prompts you to disable one of the currently recording programs in order to view live TV. On the previous Contour system there was a menu option to disable buffering on the client boxes, which freed up the tuner. On the new Contour system, I can not find this setting. Is there a fix for this annoying problem?8KViews0likes10Commentst v

I have had a Cisco 9865HDC Contour DVR which has become increasingly problematic over the last few weeks although it has exhibit some incorrect behavior for a long time. The problems can generally be summed up as processing hangs in computer support terminology. The range of symptoms include: 1. After turning on the DVR, it won't respond to commands from the remote, sometimes for several minutes. Then, when it does begin to respond, it "plays catch-up", processing the remote commands that had been entered earlier in rapid succession. 2. When watching recorded programs, playback frequently freezes, sometimes with pixilation of the display, for long periods; trying to rewind or fast-forward frequently results in freezes and the unit again becoming non-responsive to the remote; sometimes the display just goes blank along with the clock display on the front. 3. As a result of some of these hangs, I have begun rebooting the unit (unplugging the power cord, waiting and plugging it back in) and most times the reboot does not proceed as before, sometimes taking up to an hour to completely restart. 4. In other troubleshooting, I have erased recorded and retained programs to reduce the total storage down from about 50% to about 15%; we have also cleared a number of series recordings (most of which were currently inactive anyway); nothing I have done seems to help and, in fact the problem is getting worse. As a person with many years of computer support experience, I am convinced that there is a hardware failure involved, possibly with the hard drive or disk controller, and I am ready to "bite the bullet" and take the unit in for a replacement. Of course, that means we lose everything that is recorded and the scheduled recordings but this has become an unmanageable situation. However, I thought I would ask here if anyone thinks this might be a cabling or signal issue first so I don't waste the effort. All of our cabling and signal strengths were thoroughly reviewed and "redone" by a Cox technician within the last two years.2.2KViews0likes2CommentsIR Codes for Cisco Explorer 9865HDC
I am trying to setup a Control4 system to control a new 9865 box. I've learned most of the IR codes, however, I can't seem to get the learned "Channel Up" code to work properly. Does anyone know where I can find a complete set of IR hex codes for this box?3.8KViews0likes3CommentsContour Box daily problems (Model 9865HDC)
My contour box requires reboot constantly, are there know issueswith this deviceor can they be resolved somehow? Since the day this device was installed in my home I have many problems. Initially it would have trouble getting some channels. I went through my home and tightened down all of my cable connections (made sure splitters and connections were tight). The channel troubles became less frequent, but I am still having to reboot the box constantly. Sometimes it requires a reboot to even open the DVR function. Sometimes it will not rewind live TV and I need to reboot. Other times the guide will not display or I cannot change channels. This is the most inconvenient DVR system I have ever used. I hope that I am alone in this struggle and there is some software/firmware update or model replacement that will resolve these chronic issues.4.2KViews0likes3CommentsExplorer 9865HDC
When I got up this morning, my Explorer 9865HDCwould not turn on. I power-cycled it only for it to freeze on BOOT. I power-cycled it again a couple more times trying to reset it. I ended up chatting with a tech online and he reset my system. After he did this, again, it froze on BOOT, however, this time it would also scroll OCAP-USB a few times then go back to BOOT. I have contour and no other boxes are affected.3.7KViews0likes2CommentsContour DVR - Shut Down/Reboot Issue
I have had Cox Contour now for about 2 months, overall it not been too bad an experience, unfortunately, the enjoyment of this service is being marred by the Cisco 9865HDC shutting down and rebooting at daily, but irregular intervals. I have disconnected the power for 5 mins and restarted the unit but the problem persists, shutting down at a key moment in a program and when eventually restarting, tuning to a different channel. Anyone else having this problem or should I just arrange to get the equipment changed out? Thanks21KViews0likes18CommentsDVR video files
Two questions. I have a 9865 WHDVR 1) Is it possible to backup video files from the DVR? 2) I can see the video files from a DLNA/UPNP client but they won't play. I"ve tried several different software players. Is there a setting on either the DVR or the player that I'm missing? Thanks, Doug1.9KViews0likes1CommentWhat is happening when contour 6 displays APP
Have a 9865HDC DVR with contour 6. Unit was off and I happen to notice screen showing APP, afterwards some weird display of what I would call computer gobblie gook, and then returned to time display. Later when unit and TV were turned on all was OK, but only had audio and no video when first turned on, had to turn off and back on to correct. Question is what is happening when this occurs? Is it a sign of software update? Is it a sign of possible problems? I did use search option for forum but found nothing to explain.3.3KViews0likes5CommentsBuzzing noise while Contour Record 6 (Cisco 9865HDC) DVR is on pause - Continued
In a previous post, it was mentioned that a buzzing sound was heard while pausing the DVR. I have that issue, but in addition, not only does my audio buzz while pausing the DVR, it also buzzes while pausing live TV. Also, I get this same buzz coming through the speakers of my TV. I just purchased a 70" Sony Bravia. In thinking the problem originated from the Cisco box, Cox came out 3 times and swapped out the same box. The last swap was with a new box, not a refurbished box. Problem did not get corrected. I returned my TV, and exchanged it for another, same model and brand. Same problem occurs. This only occurs using the HDMI cable from the Cisco to the TV. I've swapped out different HDMI cables, and also tried different HDMI inputs on my TV. Problem still exists. I also have a home theater system. If I use an optical audio cable from the TV to the AV receiver, the problem still occurs. However, if I connect an optical cable from the Cisco box directly to my AV receiver, the problem goes away. Most of the time, I only use the audio coming from my TV set, and, save the home theater for Bluray or football games. I'm thinking this is a software glitch with the Cisco, and hoping a firmware and/or software upgrade is going to cure this problem. Anybody else having this same issue? Any workaround?16KViews0likes16Comments
