DVR not working; cnF9 error
My DVR box (Cisco 8742HDC) stopped working around 1230 PM. I checked the cables (use a splitter with my panoramic wifi modem) and tried to reset it from the COX website, but received the "unable to reset receiver, try again in a few minutes" message. I tried again about ten minutes later, no change. I unplugged the power source from the box, waited two minutes then plugged it back in. It cycled through to the "Welcome to COX" screen but never actually made it to the program guide. After trying this a third time, my areahad a thunderstormwhich caused apower outage for about an hour. Once it returned, the box went through the usual boot up process, but now is frozen with the "Welcome to COX. We're loading the Interactive Program Guide" screen and the front of the box reads the "cnF9" error code(or config as I have seen in other posts). It has been like this for the past2 hours and still has not returned. Every once in a while the "Please wait" blue dots that form a circle will move, as if to show progress. I have had this box about four months after having the previousmodel for four years. That box "died" after having a similar issue where it would not record and then it froze on the DVR recordings screen. I lost all my recordings that time and am mentally prepared to lose the recordings on this DVR again. Is it time for another box?2.8KViews0likes3CommentsCisco 8742 HDC cable box neutered by Cox?
Our trusty SA silver cable box finally died and we were presented with an all 'new and improved' Cisco 8742 box. This is the same box Time Warner has been using for years and far from new, but it IS programmable to be neutered to disable it's turners and shut itself off to save bandwidth on the network and why I think the change was made. For most casual home cable boxes this is a good thing, but I am not one of those users. I want both tuners buffering up an hour of content 24/7 and the ability to Swap between tuners and do what I with that tuner without affecting the other tuner. The way the Cisco is programed all of that is gone, as is the ease of jumping forward and backwards by 15 mins to the hour, and every other feature that made old box so great and enjoyable to use. So... Cox Cisco Firmware programmers... Will you make an 'opt in' firmware update for us power users that need the old features put back in? Or is it just swap this box back in for a replacement SA box that does the job the way we like it? Thank you.3.2KViews0likes2CommentsCan't get SAP off on 2 channels only
I have a Contour 8742HDC record 2 DVR. For some reason, 2 channels (TBS HD and TNT HD) are stuck outputting SAP instead of the primary audio track. I have gone into the guide and made sure it is set to "Primary" to no avail. In fact, both the Primary and SAP audio seem to be the same thing on these two channels. I have reset the box both by power cycling it, and having Cox send a signal to "refresh" the box, neither fixed it. It is outputting SAP both over optical and HDMI to the TV. All other channels work properly, including TBS and TNT SD channels. Cox wanted to roll a truck on it. It seems almost mind boggling to me that there is no way of fixing this short of rolling a truck? Is there anything else I can try short of having to have a truck rolled?7.6KViews0likes4CommentsCan't delete future recordings or any series on both of my Cox 8742HDC 2 tuner DVRs in Tulsa
Both of my brand new 8742HDC DVRs can't delete any future scheduled recordings and can't delete a requested series. Now waiting on "Atlanta" with no fix in sight. Standard Cox tech answer is "That's weird.". One tech substituted an older wide chassis 2 tuner Contour DVR which displayed the same issue. Another Cox tech climbed the pole and said wiring and signals were good. Cox Tulsa claims that 8742HDCs work fine at the office.2.1KViews0likes2CommentsRewinding Live TV on Whole House 8742HDC DVR and 4642DHC Client
We recently had the whole house DVR system (Explorer 8742HDC and Explorer 4642HDC clients) installed. The default setting prohibited rewinding live TV, but I changed the setting to enable pausing live TV. But then I noticedthat you can't rewind live TV like we cold on the old Explorer 8300HD DVRs unless you first press pause. After you press pause, then rewind and fast forward are operable, but only back to the point that you originally hit pause.(However, sometimes I can't even do thatand I get a messagethat says something about having technical difficulties and to try it again later.) This doesn't seem very optimal. The reason I want to rewind is to see something again. If I want to see something again and then I hit pause (so that I can rewind), I can't rewind to the video I want to see again because I can only rewind to the point that I first hit pause. So the only recourse is to hit pause whenever I first start watching TV and whenever I switch channels. This isn't good. Any suggestions?3.3KViews0likes0Comments
