Why didn't Cox notify customers in advance about discontinuation of email accounts? If I hadn't logged in today with a "secondary" account I probably wouldn't have known until I tried to add a new email address to my account sometime in the future. I have several Cox email addresses and every few years I delete one when it's getting too much spam and create a new one to replace it. The prospect of using Gmail or Yahoo or some other email provider doesn't appeal to me at all. https://www.cox.com/residential/support/understanding-digital-identities-and-account-types.html On my account home page there was an explanation that most Cox ISP users don't use Cox email addresses so I also wonder how long it will be before Cox decides to eliminate email altogether. Edited to add: I receive messages regularly from Cox notifying me of Gigablast or Voice Everywhere or some other new service so again wonder why Cox didn't inform customers before this significant change took effect. Right now Cox is the only high speed ISP but ATT is installing fiber in my area so that may change. Re: Marked "-- SPAM --" from your servers. Have you logged in to Cox webmail and checked theNo Spam filtering box under Settings/Inbox/Spam Settings? The "SPAM" subject used to drive me crazy until I turned it off. Edited to add: Just read about Cox's switchover to a new spam detection system so even though I have this option using "classic" webmail maybe it isn't in the new webmail settings ... which leads me to fear I'll start receiving "SPAM" messages again. Re: Cox email security Can you elaborate on this problem? I checked the various processes for retrieving a password and, although I agree 2 factor authentication would improve security, it doesn't seem to me that "Anyone that knows your email address can log into your account, select the option that they forgot their email password, and then change your password." Below is a screen snapshot showing that a password reset link will be sent to the associated email address. The other methods of retrieving account information require your Cox PIN or the last 4 digits of your SS #. What am I missing? About 10 years ago Cox began using SSL/TLS for email accounts — before then I had lots of problems with email addresses being spoofed. Since then I have had very few problems with my Cox email accounts.
