Remote No Longer controls audio or turns off TV

I received a new TV and hooked it up to my Cox cable box. The remote I've always used works fine except it will no longer turn the TV off. The remote will turn the TV back on after I turn the TV off manually, but it takes nearly 30 seconds or more for the TV to finally turn on. And the remote no longer controls the audio and the mute button does not work. All the rest of the remote seems to work with the new TV as it did with the old TV. Any ideas, anyone?

    Great news. I pushed the A button on my remote, I think, and I was provided with a tool for linking my remote to my new TV. After a few tries, I finally got the tool to work, and now the remote is working perfectly with the new TV. So, never mind, I guess.
