DVR erratic

Lately our Cox DVR has not been working as usual.  First, we kept getting the message that "recording failed because the  show was not found in the guide" which was incorrect because we were watching the show at the time.

We had the DVR replaced and haven't had that problem yet, but now when we try to record a series, we do not get the option to do so.
