Can you download shows recorded on your DVR

Hey is it currently possible to download a show or even watch a recorded show from your DVR?  Is there some special service you need to buy in order to do this?  I wish to be able to watch a show anywhere from my DVR recorded shows.  HELP.

    Just to add so you know my service, I currently pay for Preferred DVR service with up to 6 shows recorded together!
