Can my roku ultra be used instead of the Cox Cable mini service top box .most other cable providers even provide an app you can download called spectrum.which has much nicer inter face,cable guid,and many useful tools.either way how should I connect

Cox mandates a cable-box...any cable-box...because Cox encrypts their TV content.  To keep you renting, Cox only allows their cable-box to decrypt the data.

UPDATE:  either a cable-box or a CableCARD (or a tuning adapter).  I'm not sure which device...CableCARD or tuning adapter...you'd actually rent from Cox.

You're on the right track to stream, however, with a Roku!

you'd rent both,but the tuning adapter is free

    Okay...thanks.  Renting a CableCARD is basically to record, right?  I remember the concept of TV Tuner Cards back in the '90's but have since became ignorant of 'em.
