Number no longer in service message

I terminated my Cox home phone service several weeks ago, but when I call my old number from my cell phone I get three short tones and am then disconnected  Why do I not get the message “this number is no longer in service”.

  • Sounds like a problem with the phone provider you're calling from. have you tried calling from a Cox number? also why is this causing a problem? if you canceled your phone number, people shouldn't be calling you at that number. Give them your new number. it could be a simple as the old number now belongs to someone else and they are blocking you.

Who says it should? once you cancel service you have no authority over the number anymore. why is this even causing a problem?

Thanks for your helpful response. The reason it should indicate that the number is no longer in service is that people calling the number are left with no indication why the call didn’t go through. It’s as if the call were dropped on one end or the other.
