Keeping phone number
I just signed up for Cox cable Internet and TV. I would like landline phone service, when I asked at the Cox store, I was told my number would not port over, why?
The primary reason a number cannot be ported is because it's on a switch outside of the area you want it ported to. The switch areas are set forth by the FCC

Darkatt, this number I'm trying to port is not a mobile number, it is a landline that is being used in the exact area that it's presently being used in now with Verizon.
It's possible they looked it up incorrectly then. I would email Cox.Help@cox.com with the info they asked for, and they can help you. I know several of the people there personally, and they are great.
