Keeping phone number
I just signed up for Cox cable Internet and TV. I would like landline phone service, when I asked at the Cox store, I was told my number would not port over, why?

Hi, Ed. I'm so sorry for the difficulties with your phone number. If the number was also landline and not cell, then you should be able to port it provided you can get the original carrier to make the number live in their switch. Was it a landline number?
Yes, it's a landline number that I've had for more than 30 years. I had Cox service with that same number about 8 years ago. I switched to Verizon after that and again kept that same number. Now Cox is saying it can't be ported over, I can't understand why? I asked Verizon if they are not releasing the number, they said they are not stopping it.
