Hello, to answer questions about your post.  The phone quality will not be affected when calling outside your local area.  The modem does use household power.  If you have a APU it can be connected there so any power interruptions will not affect the phone service, and we host your local phone service.  We hope this helps and please let us know if you have any other concerns.
