want to purchase my own modem/router but want to keep the phone line

Looking to purchase my own modem to save rental fees. I want to keep my phone line. As I understand, I can not purchase a modem that will work with the phone line, but can be provided for free a mode...

Thank you for the reply. No I do not stream videos, In fact I rarely use Wi-Fi. I do understand that If I go this route and I would need to buy a router for wi-fi.
