Correct. Why else would you connect a garage door opener to a router? You'd either open/close it via the transmitter included with the opener or an app on a phone. Unless it also has cameras, there isn't much to check on a garage door opener.

I think that is what OP is trying to set up but they can't get their garage door opener to connect to the internet(Wi-Fi) for the app to function.

It connects but doesn't stay connected. As far as the frequency hopping, disregard, I suspect its NIC is probably sending an internal open/close command.

One way to test that theory is to try another device(phone?) in the same spot as the opener(with it turned off) and see if the problem occurs. If not, then it has to be something specific with the opener. I am guessing it's just weak signal.

Did you read below one manufacturer had stopped supporting 10 Mbps? How much throughout do these things generate? Perhaps it can stream UHD movies!
