Running pfsense on a SB6141

I'm running pfsense which is a custom Unix based router.  Everything works fine except when I reboot the router I have to release and renew the WAN interface lease in order to get an IP.  This happens every single time.  The configurations in the router are from what I can tell correct.  To test and see if there's something wrong what I have done is plugged the modem directly into a computer running Windows 7 and cycled the power on the modem.  I have to release and renew the IP address on it also.

What is going on?

  • RazorbackGeek,

I wouldn't be able to offer much insight into your router, so hopefully another forum member chimes in, however I can say with certainty that any time you change what's directly connected to the modem, the modem would need to be power-cycled or it won't recognize the new device.

Are you saying after you power cycle the modem and the modem has reconnected successfully to our network, you're then having to release/renew your IP on the Windows 7 PC directly connected to the modem? If your Windows pc is set up to use DHCP it should automatically obtain an IP from the modem. Any manual configuration on the PC's network adapter could impact the dynamic process.
