I had a similar situation occurring and discovered my kid was turning off the TV but leaving the AppleTV YouTube app running. The YouTube app had been cycling through videos for hours. Using a feature of my router, I limited the AppleTV device to 4 hrs of "internet time" per day. Problem sort of solved.
Q for Superbigwaff: Is your router a separately purchased router or is it a feature within the Cox panoramic combined modem/router? If its the latter, is it a feature under parental controls and where?
The feature is included in the parental controls features of the separately purchased router. Highly recommend this product -
Depending on the size of your home and needs, you can get a device for $99. Excellent wifi coverage and the best parental control features in a router. If you have a bigger home, the devices can be configured as a mesh wifi network.
You currently might be "renting" the Panoramic. You'll save money in the long run by purchasing your own DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem and wifi router... and get better quality and more features.
