WiFi is LAN. If data transfer is restricted to only the LAN, Cox can't meter it. Cox can only meter your data if it travels out the modem or ONT.
If data is transferring within your house...from device to device on your LAN...it doesn't count against your data cap. How could it? It's not on the Cox network. If your data usage is increasing but you're not streaming or downloading huge files from the Internet, perhaps you have an unauthorized user on your network. Change your encryption key.

Thanks ...I *** when it comes to WAN /LAN .. I can configure my home network but not 100% how it actually connects. I always thought ONT was for separating media from data. But I guess I am wrong again as the menu still worked on the tv when I disconnected the coax.
If you have an ONT, you have a fiber-optic cable connecting your house to the outside world. If you have a DOCSIS modem, you have coaxial cable to the outside world.
You're correct: the ONT does separate. However, I wouldn't say it separates media but instead separate your Cox services (Internet, TV, Voice) and sends it to the correct device (router, cable box, telephone modem).
Disconnected the coax from what...the cable box? You didn't get live programming while disconnected did you? The menu would still work because it's programmed into the cable box...not a server somewhere.
