Cox IP blocked as suspicious

Thousands of IP addresses are being blocked by McAfee firewall. IP addresses for Akami Technology and Cox are the bulk of them. Some have reported degraded internet service as a result of these suspicious IPs attempting to connect to my network through Cox. What is happening here and can Cox do anything to prevent this? Thanks.
