Cox Fiber (Professional Installation)

I received the "Cox Fiber is here" mail after seeing the installation in the neighborhood streets about 4 months ago. I want to schedule an installation but have been reading too many discussions with problems during installation.

Hidden list of fiber install requirements? | Cox Community
This discussion sounds similar to mine but was not answered.

What is involved with installation from the street to the house? I can't afford to have internet down for weeks because of remote work needs. Is there something I can do before scheduling to validate smooth install from street to house? Is trenching new conduit from street to house required for install also?

Trying to find a list of details for New Fiber Installation through chat ended up with the Live Agent telling me the details are "on the Cox website or on the Cox App" and I couldn't be given a URL to where to find the details.

  • bpm009, I am sorry that was your experience. Here is the link I believe they were speaking of. The information is listed in the FAQ section at the bottom.  https://www.cox.com/residential/internet/fiber.html

Can't help with the getting fiber to your house, but for making things easy for install, one thing you can do is run ethernet from where the ONT will be to where you want the router. Tricky part is knowing where they will put the ONT. I think the service is done in two stages, so hopefully the first tech can tell you where the ONT will be and give you enough time to install ethernet before the second tech comes.

Also, BUY YOUR OWN ROUTER. Cox fiber doesn't use a cable(DOCSIS) modem so the Panoramic gateways Cox rents out are put into router mode. That means any normal stand alone router with a ethernet WAN port and DHCP will work in it's place. Their gateway is only good up to 1Gbps when in fiber mode. It's just a better idea to use your own for many reasons. The only exception is if you have Wireless TV boxes, phone service, or Homelife, then you need the gateway.
