COX EMAIL HACKED

Can anyone at COX confirm that there was a security breach that left subscribers EMAIL accounts susceptible to HACKING.

My EMAIL was clearly HACKED and there has been no announcement from COX, just a cryptic message asking subscribers to check security settingss!

Can you explain how a third party was able to reset a username and password on an account where my cox email is used to send a validation code in order to change said username and password??

Someone had access to my cox account, otherwise they wouldn't have acquired the validation code.

    The attack originated in China.

I didn't get an email. It's circumstantial evidence.

1.) In order to change a username/password combination on a third party site you need to have a verified email address.

2.) Perpetrator has my email address for the third party website.

3.) Perpetrator does not have a password, they click on forgot password.

4.) Third party sends a confirmation code to my email address.

5.) Perpetrator has access to my email and uses the code sent along by the third party to reset username and password on third party website.

My wife had the same exact thing happen, also from a @163.com account which is why I am here as well. Also an Amazon Account

Yes, the email was from Amazon, they confirmed my EMAIL was hacked. I called them and had them recover my account and then changed my COX EMAIL password

I'm familiar with phishing. I think you need to start taking me seriously and check with your management. COX EMAIL security has been compromised.

I have had this happen three times over the last two weeks all on Amazon and while I am unsure if this is a problem at Cox’s end it seems that my Cox email accounts are a factor. In the end I changed my email account details with Amazon to another provider and the problem seems to have gone away. I could not understand how the perpetrators were able to bypass the two step verification but they were and they changed my password with Amazon.

I have fully scanned by computers using McAfee and they show that they are not infected. I am also sure that I have not been the subject of a phishing email.

  • a month or two ago i kept getting notifications like this from ebay.   they insisted they would not have sent them if SOMEONE wasn't changing the password.  well that someone was not me!  i don't use that account often so i closed the account. please lord, don't let it happen to my amazon account tho...that would hurt!

So just to be clear.... My AMAZON account could not be hacked without FIRST gaining access to my COX EMAIL account
