Cox AUP Now Permits WFH

Greetings,

When when we work from home in 2020 beginning in May,

We reviewed the AUP for residential Cox home internet. It did not appear to contain an allowance for telecommuting, also known as work from home.

However we reviewed todday, Feb. 25, '25:

4. Commercial Use. The Service is designed for personal, residential, non-business-related use of the Internet and may not be used for commercial purposes (except for reasonable residential applications such as telecommuting, online education, and the like). You may not resell the Service or otherwise make the Service available for use to persons outside your dwelling (for example, through an open wireless home network). You agree not to use the Service for operation as a de facto Internet service provider, or for any other business enterprise (whether for profit or non-profit), including, without limitation, IP address translation or similar facilities intended to provide additional access. For commercial Internet service please contact Cox Business.

IANAL (AM NOT A LAWYER), but it looks like anyone wishing to work for a company, example on a W-4 or 1099 basis is free to telecommute and work from home as a quote reasonable quote application considered by Cox communications.

It still does not appear that someone running an Etsy store, or eBay or you know Amazon sort of reseller from their garage, or social media content creator, influencer or semicolon for example. I'm not clear whether those would be some sort of acceptable telecommuting employment.

(They once inquired about a Cox Business connection and they will need you to confirm a valid Business License.)

In the commercials and marketing materials for Cox Communications home internet, the family is always depicted at leisure, enjoying their recreation, and definitely not doing any banking, tax filings, or healthcare or religious practice, participation. It's more like video gaming and planning parties.

We're relieved to know that telecommuting is perfectly reasonable and available to us next time our job sends us to work from home! Thank you Cox Communications for the clarity!
