Not yet, the OP hasn't posted having a modem. ALL he says is he disconnected his netgear router, and then tries to connect his cable wire to a MOCA connecter and run the ethernet from the moca connecter to his new mesh router. They state, that they connected an ethernet wire his from OLD netgear router, and since there is no information on THAT router being connected to a separate modem, it's a good bet it IS a Modem/Router combo!
Darkatt - you are correct. I have plugged the Mesh into an older Netgear router/modem and it works occasionally. I'd like to get rid of the older networks and use the Nighthawk only. I understand that I need a modem, but when I put the moCA box on the coax, the moCA box never registers the signal.

The moca box isn't a modem. It requires to be connected to an operational network, then uses the cable connection to pass a signal to another MOCA adapter, OR uses a Moca Modem to pickup a moca signal through the cable wire and then it uses the ethernet to talk to a network. Either way, a modem is required for the initial conversion from RF signal to ethernet.

Is the router/modem registered with cox so it has internet access?

Yes, the MODEM is registered with Cox, via the serial number, make/model, and the HFC MAC ID. If you want to use the mesh network, you will need to either purchase a stand alone modem, call Cox and provide them the info, (The SB8200 is a good modem), or use your netgear WiFi modem and put it in Bridged mode.
