- I'll start off my saying that I've probably had 10 or so tech visits in the past few months. Having them look for various things. I've had them test for ingress and emf. Modem is running well. I've tried 3 separate modems to eliminate that factor. And while through all of their tests and saying all look well, I have crazy ping spikes. Nearly all game...every game.
- My ping to a server originally is usually 30-50. But it fluctuates horribly. And my upload speeds fluctuate 1 through 35mbps
SPeed tests usually result in good download and upload always different 1-35
1-35 Mbps...so I'll assume you're only having a problem with uploads.
Do you use a VPN while gaming? Do all devices have fluctuating uploads?

I tried 2 different vpns recently. Didn't help much. Although idk too much about it. But I do know that it had my download speeds down to like 25mbps and ny uploads were in the kbps.
Yea all devices do. But no other devices really utilize upload besides my game consoles

How's the uploads without the VPN?
What VPN providers do you use?
I'm not a gamer but I understand games require specific ports. What ports and protocols (TCP/UDP) do you require to game? Also, any addressing requirements, such as NAT, cloning, etc.

I just put my consoles on DMZ as its not nearly as risky as putting a pc on it.
I tried nordvpn and purevpn

A VPN is a private "tunnel" through Cox and the Internet. The tunnel hides your IP address and encrypts your traffic. Nobody knows your traffic is you...nobody knows where you're going...nobody knows what you're doing. It's just a stream of gobbledygook.
The companies offering VPN services...although based in the US...could have their VPN servers located stateside or overseas, for example, Panama. Therefore, a game server wouldn't "see" your modem; it would see the VPN server.
For example, if you live in San Francisco, the game server is in Los Angeles and your VPN server is in Maine; your tunnel leaves your house in San Francisco, goes to the VPN server in Maine and back to the game server in Los Angeles...and vice versa. You get an idea how the tunnel can distort geography.
Better VPN services provide more reliability than free or cheaper services. Why do you need a VPN to game?
