Adding Ethernet a good idea?

I would like to add a Poe Ethernet switch to an existing cox panoramic Wi-Fi router. Would I connect the switch directly to the cox issued

modem/router? Will it interfere with the ability to use Wi-Fi? Anyone have an Ethernet switch with POE that they would recommend for this application

  • Thank you very much for your input. Yes, sir. I am connecting a gate operator, doorbell and some security cams. Some of which are POE.  Also, Ethernet seems like a more reliable connection for these critical devices. I really appreciate your response. Thank you

You can connect a switch to the Pano modem without issue. Not sure why you would need Power over Ethernet, unless you are powering IP cameras/security devices ip phones, etc. IF you do, ensure you are using a good UPS.

    I use a TP-Link LS108GP.

Glad to have helped. Again though, remember a good UPS for the pano modem and the PoE switch, to keep internet up and power to your devices. I have an APC 1500, that has my desktop computer on it as well, and I have the APC serial software setup to gracefully shut down my computer 5 min after power loss, so the APC can power my modem/router/switch for a longer period of time.
