So do you think that my issue is related to the recently reported Xfinity breach? Did Cox give them access to my personal data in this licensing arrangement? I tried to reset my gateway admin password. I logged into the admin tool successfully with my 5 year old complex password. But when I tried to change my password, I typed my old password in and it was rejected because it contains 2 special characters. My new password does not contain special characters, but I can't successfully submit the change because there's the issue with my old password. I logged out of the admin tool and was again successful in logging in with my old password containing 2 special characters.
Is the next option to factory reset the modem/router and go through the activate process I did 5 years ago? I only use the ethernet connection for my home computer. If someone had access to my gateway, could they have entered my home computer account already? I need to pay some bills, etc. and am afraid to log into my bank account. Who should I contact to figure this out for me? Is the Best Buy Geek Squad a good source? Yikes! I don't have any techie friends...

Don't know for sure, but it's possible. Maybe a moderator could comment. Would think we would be seeing more posts on the subject if that was the case. If it was me, I would give up the combo that runs Cox's Panoramic platform and buy your own modem and router. Not only does it save you from having to pay monthly for it, but retail equipment is usually better performance and flexibility. It also gives you peace of mind in situations like this. Don't see how Geeksquad could help. Whatever you do, don't pay for Cox Complete Care. They are outsourced and I hear horrible.

Thank you WiderMouthOpen and COXWifiapp1. This sounds like a phishing scam. If the notice appeared on your Verizon Mobile iPhone, that would not be apart of your internet specific. Since you are not an Xfinity customer I am glad to hear that you did not click that link. Neither Xfinity or Cox would ask you to do this step. I get these pop up notices on Windows as well for Microsoft. Never click them! Cox Complete Care is a good resource for personal equipment and they have access to your Cox services as needed. In regards to your protection, remember you have McAfee security included with your internet service at Cox. https://www.cox.com/residential/support/cox-security-suite-plus-powered-by-mcafee.html. Hi Raquel, I believe WiderMouthOpen mentioned that "Cox licenses the Panorama/X1 platform from Comcast/Xfinity" and I have the Arris TG1682 which is that platform. I believe this may be my case. I searched in forums.xfinity.com and did find the user reported issue that appeared in the window that popped up on my iPhone. What is this Arris device that just randomly connected to my network? | Xfinity Community Forum. I also found other identical issues like mine reported for about 4 years, but not any great answers. One that was repeated is that Advanced Security is buggy. :)
What's different in my case is that the "COX Wifi" App first notified me on my iPhone with a pop up "A device called Arris device just connected to your home network for the first time." Then immediately, in Safari on my iPhone, this window popped up: What is this Arris device that just randomly connected to my network? | Xfinity Community Forum. The user name, date, and text all match what I saw.
Raquel, I installed the McAfee app on my iPhone. Also, when you said "If you need additional assistance you can also email us at cox.help@cox.com with your name, address, and a link to this forum thread." what do you mean by name and address? Thank you.

They meant your name and address. As in what people call you and where you live. 😅 They have to look up your account somehow.
As for the phishing scam, how would that work with a notification? I think the moderator thought it was a text I think. I am losing more and more faith in what moderators here say.
