Wireless USB Device

Hello, I have a Netgear CG3000D-1CXNAS Wireless Cable Gateway. When this was installed by COX, they also installed a Netopia 3D USB device that plugs into the back of my computer. The CG3000D is plugged into a coaxial cable in another room. My Netopia USB device has been dropping connections quite a bit over the last two years. When I make a hard connection between the CG3000D to my computer and disconnect my Netopia USB device my internet speed doubles from 25 mbps to 50 mbps. So, I believe I need to replace the Netopia USB device that allows me run my Roku 3, and HP Printer and internet as wireless connections. What is a recommended USB wireless device that will work with my CG3000D? Or is there a way to run wireless without having the Netopia USB device connected to my computer and still use the CG3000D? Thanks.

I purchased the Netgear N300 Wireless USB adapter from Best Buy last night and installed it. It made a big difference in the download speeds and proved to be the problem with my equipment. I ran Speedtest.net at that website and the highest download speed so far this morning was 46.74 mpbs. If I use the COX speed test the number is always lower. A few minutes ago I ran it got a 39.16 mbps, I don't know why it's always slower using the COX speed check.... And when the service installed my equipment he showed me the Speedtest.net site he used which I still do. I pointed out the COX many times over the last two years that the Netopia 3D Wireless adapter appeared to be the problem, which came with my router/modem they installed. For some reason they never concurred with that assessment and always looked at other areas which has been frustrating for the last 2 years. I will keep an eye on the new N300 Wifi adapter and the speeds keep increasing computer use time. When I first installed it was only 5 mbps. And it has not dropped my internet connection one time. this was common with the Netopia Wifi adapter. Again I extend a special thanks to Health Edge on the recommendation. I feel this is rectified my problem.

Never seen Cox give out devices like that. Netopia is usually ATT. Looks like a Wifi G wireless adapter, which is why your stuck at the 25Mbps. You probably want something like this. However the Roku 3 and most HP printers have wireless built in. Why do you need a adapter for them?

Before you do that though you may want to try updating the drivers for the USB adapter. Do you have the exact model number?

Hello Health Edge, Thanks for the reply, I have a data sheet I downloaded last year but cannot attach it. Here is another link that shows what it looks like http://wireless-drivers.blogspot.com/2011/12/motorolanetopia-3-d-reach-wireless-usb.html. Even the data sheet I have does not list a model number. At the time of the installation Wireless was new to me and I'm still learning more about it. Thanks.

Hello Health Edge, Last year I did update the drivers through a 3rd party program which helped a little, but not much. The Netopia is obsolete and unavailable. I believe your suggestion of the Netgear N300 Wireless N is the solution. Thanks again.
