Very Slow Internet Speed

For the past week I have been having trouble with my internet speed.  Last night it wasn't even getting 4mbps.  I have did the online chat several times and had them reset my modem.  They even told me last night the signal from the modem is weak.  I have even tried moving it to another outlet.  I have an Arris SB6182.  and I use a separate WIFI router.  I even bought a new router and tried that out but that didn't make a difference either.

What are the speeds if you connect directly to the SB6182?

unfortunately I am not able to hook right in to the modem.  I have been set up wifi for the last 5 years.  I don't have a regular computer.  Just a phone, tv and Ipad.  But even on wifi I should be getting a lot more that 4mbps.  Especially when I pay for 50mbps

You don't really pay for Wifi. That would be like saying you pay for cordless phones. The reason it's important to isolate where the problem is because it makes it alot easier to figure out what is causing the problem. Without it, expect troubleshooting to be a bit more complex.

First, what router do you have and how is the wireless configured? How is the signal strength where you typically use the Ipad?

I know I don't pay for WIFI.  I know that is will be slower than what I pay for.  What I was saying is that it should still be faster than 4mbps.  I have a Belkin 750AC.  I even went and bought another router to see if that was the issue and got the same speeds. on my iPad last night I couldn't even get 1 mbps.  Called customer service and they said my modem signal was weak would send a signal to the modem.  Didn't change the speeds.  I haven't had an issue till about 2 weeks ago.

What are the signal levels to your modem? You can find them on the modems 192.168.100.1 page.

As for the belkin router, I found the manual here, but no mention of how to even configure the wireless settings. On page 44 there is mention of a page http://router/ and then go to Channel and SSID. But I don't see any way to view wireless networks and their channel. There is no way to check channel or rate of the wireless connection on a Ipad, since Apple blocks that info from being shared between hardware and software. Happen to have a android smartphone?

Great! Try Wifi Analyzer and look at the signal strength in different parts of the house for dead zones and possible interference. Also see what other networks are around you and then try to configure your wireless to be different. See more info here.

skoobedoo5,

I was able to locate your account and I'm not seeing anything amiss at the moment regarding your modem's connection to our network. If at all possible (maybe with the help of a friend with a laptop) I'd suggest hardwiring to the modem to run speed tests. I'm concerned that something may be interfering with your wireless signal. (EDIT -- Health Edge, GMTA! Thanks for your help on this!) Maybe this article will help. http://bit.ly/ImproveCoxWifi
