URC 8820 remote version 1.1 vs version 1.2

Version 1.2 would require the device key to be pressed prior to the Power function. The All-On Power feature works on this remote, as it did with the previous version where you hold the power key and all devices will power off/on.

 That's exactly what I said.   However, the Power button single press is supposed to function with the last device selected, not the last device controlled. Disappointing that Cox didn't catch this firmware mistake in Version 1.2.

Question: How do you control a device without first selecting it? How can the last device controlled not be the last device selected?

Good question.  With the URC  8820, by default, some buttons function with specific devices regardless of which device is selected at the top (i.e. "Volume" always controls TV, "Channel" always controls STB and "Guide" always controls STB) while other buttons function with the device selected at the top (i.e. Power, Menu).

With version 1.2, however, the Power button follows the last device controlled which is not necessarily the last device selected at the top of the remote.   For example, if I selected "TV" at the top and Powered on the TV, then pressed the Channel button to change the channel on the STB, if I then press the Power button the STB will power down.  Similarly, if I selected "Cable" at the top and Powered on the STB, then pressed the Volume button to change the volume on the TV, if I then press the Power button the TV will power down.

As you can see, the Power button is following the device that was controlled last which is not necessarily the device last selected at the top of the remote.  With the version 1.1 remote, the Power stays with the last device selected at the top which is not necessarily the last device controlled.

The Power button on the version 1.1 remote is predictable, while the version 1.2 remote isn't unless you always remember which device was controlled last.  This is even more frustrating for many Cox elderly customers.
