After three phone calls, one visit to a cox store, and an appointment with a technician at home, my Ultimate Internet service is still at its best getting 60mb download speeds, most times less. I have the latest modem, and an apple extreme, so i know my equipment is capable. At my wits end with phone calls, out of time to schedule appointments etc as my vacation/move in week is over today. Anyone have any ideas, is Ultimate internet a joke, should I not bother?

DOCSIS3 Modem
Macbook Pro/MacOSX 10.9.4
I use it wirelessly, and will continue to, but Im guessing tech support will tell me to test with an ethernet port connection? Is it really unrealistic to expect my wireless connection to work at these speeds? It does at other locations, Ive seen 90-120mbs download speeds connected wireless on this laptop, juts not at my new home with the Ultimate that I upgraded to.
Thoughts? It seems I'm not alone with my concerns and it seems the common solution is "ethernet port", but that seems lame.

I'll need to grab a CAT5 cable, is there anything you can check on your end in the meantime?

Son of a gun, plugged in direct to modem and got 177mbs download first hit!
So, either my laptop or my wireless router is my issue. Ill try my wife's newer macbook air later to see if her speed is any faster, if not, Ill assume its my router and consider the newest Airport Extreme which operates dual band I believe.
Thanks

From this end I'm not seeing any obvious indicators of a problem. if you're going to try a direct connection to the modem you can use the Ethernet cord already in place between the modem and router for testing purposes. Trying another one is also a good idea however you can work with the one you already have for starters.

I see you already tried a direct test and got a favorable result. If your current router is only single band achieving Ultimate speeds over wireless will be difficult at best. Keep in mind you lose almost 1/2 of the router's rated wireless speed to overhead. That remaining amount is also divided among all of the wireless devices connected. Connecting a slower wifi device also reduces the speeds as how the router has to match the lowest common denominator so to speak.

So if I'm reading correctly, the new Apple Airport Extreme would allow me to have an older device (macbook pro 2011) with new Macbook Air and iPhone6 without the WIFI defaulting to lowest?
''''AirPort Extreme features simultaneous dual-band 802.11ac Wi‑Fi. That means it transmits at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies at the same time. So no matter which band your wireless devices use, they’ll automatically connect to the best available band for the fastest possible performance.''''''

or maybe not:
''''Comparison assumes AirPort Extreme network with 802.11ac-enabled computer. Speed and range will be less if an 802.11a/b/g product joins the network. Accessing the wireless network requires a Wi‑Fi-enabled device. Actual speed will vary based on range, connection rate, site conditions, size of network, and other factors. Range will vary with site conditions.''''''

Dual band will help mitigate some of the problems that occur with slower devices pulling down the speed. Wireless-AC uses 5.0Ghz only whereas wireless-G uses 2.4Ghz exclusively. Any wireless-N Devices you have if they're dual band can be moved to whichever band works best for your network.
