TV reception

Is there any plan available which does not require a hard cable connection

You can watch TV shows in 3 ways:  Over-the-Air (antenna)...cable (hard cable connection)...or the Internet (SmartTV apps, cellphone apps or a Roku-type device).

The only plan with Cox...other than cable...is the Internet.  Connect your TV to your router and stream programs to a Smart App...but they'll hit you with data rates.

ISP are starting to allow certain apps to not count against your cap. Cox already doesn't count Contour 2 streaming against the cap. Just not sure I am for or against ISP giving advantages to specific providers. Good or bad?

If you subscribed to a cable package, it'd be nice to watch 1080p via the Internet and not have it count towards your data cap.  I think the OP wants to drop cable altogether so it would probably count against him, her.

Do you think so? I thought they were asking if there was something they could pay Cox for that would give them cable via wifi/other. If Cox made Coutour 2 compatible with chromecast or Airplay then you could wireless stream cable content to any wifi device compatible with those standards.

PS. Free bandwidth is not everything it may seemed cracked up to be. Giving you something for free then later charging for it is the oldest game in the book. ISP are using it to shimmy around net neutrality rulings. See article here for more info.

If the FCC would abolish the antiquated rule for greedy providers to force us to rent something, there would be terrific options for us.  Remember Ma Bell requiring you to rent telephones?  And having to rent broadband modems?  Now cable boxes.

I bet Apple and Google are aching to get into cable business.  Open set-top boxes to the marketplace:  wireless HDMI boxes...better user guides...ridiculously awesome remotes...more storage...Internet apps...local Doppler radar!...call-blocking programs...and more innovations.  If a box wasn't working properly, we could call Apple or Google.

If Cox wants to encrypt the signal, fine, just give the key to Apple and Google so we can finally enjoy TV.
