Tivo Bolt Set-up

Since the previous thread on a similar topic got locked (I am assuming due to the long length of the thread), I wanted to create a new thread so anyone having issues setting up a TiVO Bolt with Cox Cable service can post any success they have had getting up and running, and the Cox team can continue to post updates on the fixes being tested with TiVO.

I am located in Orange County and am using an Arris Cable Card with Motorola Tuning Adapter.  The Conditional Access info continually shows the cable card as paired but the Auth setting = MP, which I have been told by both Cox and Tivo is the issue.

Something I've noticed common so far when it has worked with the old software

The Tivo had been powered off for a while

The Tuning Adapter was not connected, or in my case, blinking.

I later got the Tuning Adapter up, but really didn't notice any difference. Maybe I never watch the channels it adds?  And today, as a test, I power cycled everything and again the Tuning Adapter is blinking, with apparently no ill effect?

Never mind, the Tuning Adapter came back up, although with an occasional blink of the red light.  I notice when it is up, Cable Signal Strength does not work, it says "no digital signal".  Also, it doesn't see right that Test Channels in the Cable Card menu results in "No channels available", although Test Channels Using M-Card in the Tuning Adapter menu does work.

When I got the new one to work yesterday without the tuning adapter I checked the channels I usually watch, only one I noticed I didn't get was Hallmark HD. I only watch that channel for Last Man Standing reruns, I can live without that if it means the Tivo will work. Other details are 3rd from last on the old thread.

Same horrid experience here in OC, multiple service calls with tech who refuse to work on it.  Pairing requests over phone not working.  Tried a new card yesterday and Auth went from MP to a different error status.

Tech said known issue with Model 846/849 Bolts and Roamios.  TiVo says no issue and should work.

EddieV,

I'm not sure why you were advised there's not an issue. We've been working with TiVo to get this resolved. I've forwarded your information to our video engineers to ensure you are included in the implementation of the resolution once it has been confirmed.

I don't understand why the thread (http://forums.cox.com/forum_home/tv_forum/f/4/t/11837.aspx) got locked with the final THREE (3) entries being from Cox moderators copy/pasting that they are working on the issue. It makes Cox look even more incompetent.

Locking an unresolved thread is really terrible.

Installing today's beta from TiVo at the moment… will report back, but as far as I knew the Auth = MP issue was resolved with last week's beta (RC10), no?

Over at tivocommunity site on the same topic, three of us have had luck using the older Motorola branded cable card.  Don't know if it is just a coincidence.

No thanks to Cox mine is now working and it would've been week and weeks ago if all of the techs that had come previously had been bothered to actually try to work the issue rather than blame it on Tivo.

So frustrating how much they have continued to charge for not only a non working TV service, but also service calls when it was their fault and hadn't bothered to remove a "data only" filter out in the street despite me asking this to be checked before on a previous visit.

If anyone is bothering to read this from Cox, I would like my bill recalculated so that the last two I received are essentially what I was paying for my internet connection only prior to this debacle!

Hi Strangely,

I will make sure you are not charged for today's service call. I'm glad to hear that all of your channels are working now!

strangely - so you never had TV signal in the first place!? /facepalm Since I actually have an actual Cox receiver and signal at the moment, I'm ruling out that possibility for me. Glad it worked out for you!!

How about the TV service too that I've been paying for? Even with previous service calls etc removed, my bill has been a lot more than just the internet I that I was paying before. I wouldn't be bothered so much if I hadn't also have been paying for DirecTV concurrently. I obviously could not remove that either until the Tivo worked.

Also what steps are you guys taking to learn from this? The whole time I've been insisting that you guys should not have assumed it to be a Tivo problem. How are you going to now perhpas reach out to others with non working Tivos in case they are also subjected to this sloppy mistake of leaving a filter fitted?

@Geran, I also briefly had a contour receiver and it worked too so don't assume that you haven't got a filter. You can likely confirm this by plugging the cable into a TV directly and seeing what the analogue channels look like that say "Cox is going all Digital" or whatever the message is that cox broadcasts on these (channel 37 etc (and you may have to try a tune)). The picture will be very snowy.

The filter was also causing issues with the OOB frequency and it could never lock and therefore not receive the OOB ID or any messages it needed.

If you have a look at your PM on the Tivo forum and send me an email, I can likely help you troubleshoot some other stuff that may help you confirm this along with some info from Tivo in an email about this.

Add me to the list of people experiencing this issue. After researching other forums, I found that several people had "inappropriate headend codes" associated with their cable card that caused this problem. The tech at my house yesterday couldn't make the call to have this looked at because it was too late in the day and the engineers had gone home...which was because my 3-5pm service window turned into an actual arrival of 7:15pm. Nice use of my Saturday :-/

So this morning i called the tech service line and attempted to get the headend code checked. Tier 1 service wanted to send a truck back out. Tier 2 service said that she could escalate it to tier 3 (which apparently I am not allowed to talk to) and that they could take a look at it in 2-3 weeks. Seriously? This is a 1-5 minute job by an engineer and it's going to be 2-3 weeks before they can do so? Unacceptable in my opinion.

I'll likely try to swap the cable card and tuning adapter at the Cox "Soultions" store once they open today and try again.

Tivo site calling out the same headend issue causing the MMI problem that others have reported: https://support.tivo.com/articles/Troubleshooting/CableCARD-Please-wait-Acquiring-Channel-Information

Mine has been resolved, however ii was Cox's fault mostly the whole time since there was a data only filter fitted outside somewhere that was blocking the OOB messages.

About time you guys stopped blaming Tivo and started helping them look into all of the root causes of why customers may not be able to work. I've seen two or three that were nothing to do with Tivo.
