Can you out right buy the mini box instead of renting it each month? How much will it cost?

Just found out that Cox has decided to just rent the mini box and will not sell them. Not sure what to think of this?

Cox has never allowed a purchase-option for their cable boxes, only modems, you can look into TiVo instead.

Just like me, I'm sure you've noticed how quickly technology changes these days. I honestly can't keep up! This is one reason while many satellite and cable TV providers rent their cable TV equipment rather than offer it for purchase. Renting equipment allows providers to maintain the firmware and provide software updates, and frees customers from the worry of hardware maintenance. If something goes wrong, customers can swap equipment without any headaches.
