I have Premier service which is advertised to be 50Mbps. Of course I never expect to get 100% of that advertised rate but I consistently get only around 20Mbps no matter whose speed test I run and various times of day. I have a DOCSIS 3.0 modem so I should be getting something a little closer to the speed I am paying for. I saw on other posts that there was something that Cox did to adjust/correct the speed that another customer was receiving. Maybe this is my problem, can anyone at Cox help?

I think I spoke a little too soon. The previous test result was over a WiFi connection (54Mbps) and yielded the 20Mbps download speed. I just connected via hardwire and got significantly better throughput. Appears that something is amiss with the WiFi on the laptop or router and Cox is performing as expected. Go ahead and close this thread out.

If you do replace the router, we can't recommend any specific router over any other for reasons of liability/favoritism/etc., we just recommend using wireless-N (or the new 802.11ac) with WPA2 for wireless, and gigabit Ethernet for wired. Wireless-G and 100mbps Ethernet have throughput limitations and system overhead that make them both less than ideal even for our 50mbps service.
