New router install

I plan to upgrade my N wireless router to a new ac type ... most likely the new Netgear R8000.  Is there anything I need to do other than turning off the cable modem for a few minutes then plugging it back in followed by the new router?

That's pretty much all there is to it when connecting a different device to the modem.  If you're in the mood to do upgrades however you may also want to look at DOCSIS 3.0 modems.  That will probably give you a more noticeable benefit.

Thanks Chris,

Mainly looking to have fast wan transfers for local data backups .... though I did notice in the last couple days there are service changes taking place that I was pretty oblivious to.

So I can pick up a motorola SB6141, which is on the Cox recommended list, from best buy.

Do I need to call Cox tech service to get the Cox system to recognize the new 3.0 cable modem or is it "plug and play" too?

The new modem should give you a self activation page when plugged in that will allow you to switch the service over to it on your own, but if you run into any issues we can help manually activating it on the account.
