Yes, you can use a splitter on the coax cable that connects to your modem, especially when you need to connect a TV through the same cable outlet. Are you having a hard time getting your services working correctly? We're happy to help!

A splitter does exactly as it sounds; it splits your signal 50/50. So just to apply some numbers to the question, say you have 10 units of signal coming into the wire, and you need atleast 5 units for your modem to work. Since half of 10 is 5, the modem will work. But if you only had 6 units coming in on the wire, splitting it in half would make it too low.

I would suggest hooking it up with the splitter, then go to the modems webpage at 192.168.100.1 and look at the signal levels there. I can give more specifics once I know what kind of modem you have, or Becky may be able to check it from Cox's end.
