Does anyone know how to connect a Magnavox DVR to the mini-box?

Basically from the wall you'll connect the mini-box and the RF output from the mini-box would go to your DVR. You'll need to use the mini-box to change channels and the DVR will record whatever channel is active on the mini-box.

This is from an earlier post by me. I use to run two of those before the digital changes. The moderator is correct of course....
Yes you can record with your DVR (I had two of the magnovox dvrs on a splitter before the need for a cable box). However you can only record the channel that the mini box is tuned to. Although you have a digital receiver, the cable output will be scrambled. The TV and the DVR will forever stay on CH3 or CH4 whichever matches the setting on the switch on the rear of the mini box. No DVR programmed channel changes... and no recording one program while watching another. I ended up going with the contour record 6 DVR. There is also a record 2 DVR available.
Good Luck

When we first launched the mini boxes, there was an issue that caused content recorded via VCRs and DVDRs to output scrambled, but that issue has now been resolved. Customers can use the mini box with VCRs and DVDRs to record content. You are correct about only being able to record and/or watch one show at a time. I use a mini box with DVDR in my spare room as an adjunct to my "main" two-tuner DVR.

Becky,
Correct as usual, I meant that the cable from the wall will be scrambled, not the mini-box output. Trying to make things clearer I muddied the water. My mistake. I thought about doing what you did with the DVR but I am totally pleased with the convenience of the Contour record 6. I hated labeling my saved programs. Now it is all automatic for me. Look it up in the guide and press a button! I am also thrilled with programming the DVR through the internet TV listing on Cox, I stumbled upon it accidentally, didn't see it in any literature. Search, point click and the record schedule is uploaded to the DVR, very cool. I have been a non STB household for 20+ years on Cox, still learning..
Thanks, this blog has been helpful.

With the mini box connected to the DVR by coax I can (1) play back previously recorded shows, (2) program shows, and (3) watch commercially produced DVDs, but cannot receive a signal from the mini box....no signal = no picture. Is this because the mini box output is still scrambled? When I remove the mini box (connect DVR directly from wall) I can receive, program, and record everything. How can I get an unscrambled mini box? Thanks.

The mini-box will need to be set to output on channel 3 or 4 (your preference). Whatever setting you choose the DVR will need to be left on that same channel. You may still be able to schedule recording by time only but the mini-box will need to be left on the channel which you intend to record.

ChrisL, thanks for your reply (5Apr 9:26am). Apparently I have not made myself clear, so please let me try again. Assume the Minibox is
set to 3, the Cox signal (from the wall) is connected to the Minibox IN coax port, the Minibox OUT coax port is connected to the IN coax port of the Magnavox DVR, the DVR is powered on. I should be receiving a digital signal on the DVR,right? Thanks.

DVR also has to be tuned to channel 3.

Yes, with that example your DVR would need to stay on channel 3 and you would change channels using the mini-box.

What do you mean, "cannot receive a signal from the mini box....no signal = no picture?" With your current setup, are you now recording shows from the Cox mini-box? Also, are you able to watch those recorded shows? If so, your coax connection (min-box to Magnavox) is working.
I don't understand your "no signal = no picture." Do you mean you're unable to watch live TV shows from the mini-box?
How is your TV connected to the mini-box? Do you have an HDMI cable connecting the mini-box and TV? You have two video sources (Magnavox and mini-box), so each would need to be connected to your TV...preferably via HDMI. Connect the mini-box to the TV with an HDMI cable; connect the Magnavox to the TV with another HDMI cable; keep the mini-box/coax/Magnavox connection.

If you are connecting the minibox to the recorder via coax, the signal to the recorder is ANALOG and the recorder must be set to the channel the minibox is set to. You can connect a TV to the minibox via HDMI to watch the DIGITAL content, or use coax or RCA cable from recorder to TV to monitor the recorder signal.
