Mini Box

Ever since I received and hooked up my mini box, my TV will automatically turn itself off. In the beginning it only did it once or twice a day. Now it has gotten worse and now will turn off six or seven times a day. And sometimes when I turn it back on, it will be on a completely different channel than when it went off. What causes this? Is it because I have an older TV?
