INTERNET SPEED

Hello,

I have the Ultimate Internet service and have had it for about a year now. My internet speed when I am downloading is capped at 20 MB/S. I thought I would be getting much faster internet than this. It has probably always been like this, I just didn't notice until I got a nicer computer and starting monitoring download speeds. I am using the Motorola Surfboard model SB6141, which is on your list as preferred. I am also using connected directly to a gig Ethernet switch. Could you please help with this?

What are you seeing the 20 Mbps download on, is it a specific site or program downloading or is that the result you are getting on speed tests?

It is with both speed tests and when trying to download video games from the web site steam.

DO you mean 20 MB/s or 20 Mb/s? B=Byte b=bit. If you were seeing 20MB/s this would actually be roughly 160Mbps, which is above the 150Mbps cap.

Why are you using a switch connecting to the modem? Unless it's a Business account, you can only use 1 IP at a time, so only one thing connected to that switch will work at a time. If you want more, you would need a router(or something with NAT).

I'm not exactly sure if you have been in Virginia but I've also been having problems like this. I've had two techs out here checking noise levels and everything. Everything checks out fine cables aren't broken and such. However the current tech that is coming back out again is going to replace the cable with all new ones just to make sure. I've also had the modem replaced. I honestly cannot find a reason for this to be happening on the line outside my home..

My speeds should be 150mbps down and 20 something up. Currently my speeds are 10mbps down 20mbps up. The upspeed stays the same. I'm starting to think COX is throttling me for some reason. Even though I've been through TIER 2 tech support twice and two techs out here.

The only reason I am posting this is to find out if anyone is having similar problems.  I'm hoping the current tech coming out tomorrow will fix the issue but I am doubtful.

Considering everything it seems you've tried I think a tech coming out is probably going to be necessary to troubleshoot further.  Let us know if you still have problems after your scheduled visit.
