Internet Speed

I have a Netgear CG3000D WIFI router and recently upgraded to the COX Preferred Internet. The problem I have is my download speeds should be 25 Mbps or close to and after running Speed test I consistently get between 6 - 9 Mbps in a download. I have called twice and they even sent a technician out to my house. And it really has not changed much. I have deleted Internet browsing cookies many times to no avail. This is frustrating because my current download speed is only 1-4 Mbps that COX Essential. What can be causing such a slow speed.

Hi Tiffany R, I will give that a try. Since I posted this question my USB Netopia WIFI adapter dropped the internet connection twice. And after running the Windows reconnection steps, my connection speeds are greatly improved which is a pleasant surprise. In fact I just ran Speedtest.net and download speed was 24.53 Mbps and 6.70 Mbps on the upload speed. I ran the COX Speed test you listed and received 24.30 Mbps and 18.07 Mbps respectively. This is great! It appears my router is fine and my USB WIFI adapter may have been the problem and could still be. It's no longer manufactured and I don't know if outdated drivers are part of the problem. For the moment everything is fine, and if or when my speeds drop off, I will connect to my modem with and Ethernet cable and report back to you. Thank you, Z06

Hi Tiffany R, I hope you had a great weekend. My Internet speeds have been in the range expected since the beginning of our forum post. Today it took a strange turn for some reason. I checked my speed with both Speedtest.net and the COX Internet Speed check. Speedtest.net - Download 8.00 Mbps, Upload 4.99 Mbps COX Speed Check - Download 7.34 Mbps, Upload Mbps It is a holiday but I'm not sure why my speed would drop so much, and this is what I was getting for quite some time. What could be causing such a slower speed? Thanks. Z06
