Internet Premier Help

Ive done several speed checks and none of them ever hit higher than 20 Mbps.  Is there anyway to get the full 50 Mbps that im suppose to be getting??

First, do you have a DOCSIS 3.0 modem? DOCSIS 2.0 modems have a technical limitation of about 20-25Mbps so Im wondering if that could be the issue.

Also, do you have the computer connected directly to the modem?

Last, what are you using for a speed test?

Looking at your account it appears you will indeed need to upgrade your modem to reach 50Mbps.  For non-DOCSIS 3.0 modems Premier is an up to 25Mbps service.

I kind of figured it was my modem causing the problem, I've had the same modem since I became a customer at COX at that was nearly 5 years ago.  Does COX replace modems after so long or do I need to purchase one?

Normally the modems are customer owned and therefore the customer's responsibility to replace when necessary.  If you are renting it from us however you can bring it in and swap.

It's the modem we purchased from cox when we first became customers around 5 years ago.  Guess I'll have to go in Monday and purchase a new one.

What model do you have now? Here is a list supported, with the DPC3010 and SB6141 being the most common.

The direct upgrade would be the Cisco DPC3010 then, which is probably what they have in the store, so thats good. FYI though, you can also buy them in most electronics store and online, just stay away from 2nd hand modems.

Alright thanks for the help.  Also if I purchase this modem do I just switch it out with my old modem and it instantly work or do you know if I should call tech support to get it setup?
