Internet Drops During Download

I seem to have a bit of a problem. My internet works fine at all times, except when downloading games from steam. I can watch videos on YouTube, do Google searches, and even play games on Steam. But when Steam begins to update/download a game, my Skype call is dropped and I lose connection completely. After it drops the internet, turning the modem off and back on will reconnect me, but as soon as the Steam update/download is resumes, the internet fails again. I have not gone over the data plan for this month, if you are wondering. Thanks, and I hope this can be resolved soon.

Hi, are you able to connect to the Steam website without using the Steam app, by entering the Steam address directly into the browser?

Yes, I can connect and log into the steam website just fine. The only time my internet seems to go down is when I begin downloading a game. Thanks for the response!

Sounds like your router might not be able to maintain all the active connections the Steam client uses for game transfer. Is it only downloading a game? Updating it? Playing it (offline mode)?

Hey, thanks for the response. I am able to play online games on Steam, as well as games in offline mode. I am able to use the Steam store as well as send messages. The conncection problem only happens when I begin downloading games. For about 30 seconds- a minute I am able to download things at around 9mb/s, and then suddenly the internet stops working completely.

If you can reproduce the problem simply by initiating a large download this is almost always an equipment issue.  Simple test to try would be bypassing the router and seeing if the issue persists.
