Exactly what the title says. Been doing this now for almost a month. I've called tech support and switched out to a new cable modem provided by cox, a Cisco DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0 Gateway. Phone Support was also able to look at my previous speed tests from the cox site and see the issue as well.
I've tried testing the speed from various computers and from various speed test sites, including cox's internal speed check. It's always the same, normally I get DL speeds of 24+ but during the time frame of 7pm - 12a every night of the week those speeds drop, sometimes as low as 4 or 5 on the download.
Here's a screenshot from the cox site:
Currently as I post this the speed is slower than normal, here are my modem's signal levels:
Downstream Channels
Power Level: Signal to Noise Ratio:
Channel 1: 5.9 dBmV 39.2 dB
Channel 2: 6.1 dBmV 39.5 dB
Channel 3: 6.0 dBmV 39.0 dB
Channel 4: 6.2 dBmV 39.1 dB
Channel 5: 6.0 dBmV 41.0 dB
Channel 6: 0.0 dBmV 0.0 dB
Channel 7: 0.0 dBmV 0.0 dB
Channel 8: 0.0 dBmV 0.0 dB
Upstream Channels
Power Level:
Channel 1: 41.5 dBmV
Channel 2: 0.0 dBmV
Channel 3: 0.0 dBmV
Channel 4: 0.0 dBmV
Any ideas?

The speed of my computers Internet that I paid for was 15 to 20 Mb I've never seen a get the 15 but there might be an explanation for this. I installed the Cox version of McAfee on my computer. I had zone alarm. The computer slows down when these programs are installed. Because a program or firewall is looking for suspicious activity and will abide you whether to go on the website or stay off the website. This slows things down. I know this because I can turn off my firewall and my speeds go up constantly. I turn my firewall back on in my speeds go down, but is trying to protect me. I had a catastrophic event happened. I didn't know my backup on an exterior hard drive when the machine finally crashed. I went to retrieve my backup and it was corrupt and I had to reformat the hard drive. I lost 15 years of computer files, pictures, music letters, documents, downloads, just because of this, now I decided to get Cox to be my backup. I was told by Lori Clemens, owner of LV pita that's Las Vegas to bed professional Institute of technology and accounting. She uses Cox backup if the cloud service that's what they mean by cloud is that the program is on a server somewhere on the Internet or in other words, the cloud. She said that when she had to use it Cox was there and it worked very well, so that's what I intend on using iLife digital never get back. I lost music that I'll never get back alas documents that I need a lot. Everything because I put everything to a backup hard drive and you know what I should've known better, being in tech support for years. I told people the backup and look what I did. I backup to a external. hard drive and then there was other alternatives. There's even some websites that for $58 a year. But Beatty so many gigabytes in backup. It's guaranteed. Today's viruses, Trojans and worms, you can pick one up simply by going to a website. I don't mind the computer slowing down a little bit when I know that my firewall and antivirus, anti-spyware is looking at the website. I don't mind it going all of it for bait. If you have a firewall don't expect the fast speeds you got software doing its job. Also, if you can get into your router you can set it up so it only uses certain ports. There's 6000 foreign ports on a computer that's how many F firewall has to either block or allow you have to decide that's part of calling tech support and have them help you out with that now Cox has its own backup and Lori has backup for her business with Cox, I'm going to get back up with Cox

this has been an ongoing issue for me and my friends in my city as well. the issue is clearly a congestion issue, and Cox refuses to do anything about it.
if you are lucky, you will get a response from the less-than-useless ChrisL asking you to check your modem signal levels. he will then say "there appears to be nothing wrong there" and suggest you call a tech.
the tech will come out in the middle of the day when you dont have the problem, find nothing wrong, and charge you a service fee.
it will get slow again that night, you will call, spend 45 minutes "troubleshooting" with some idiot on the phone, going through modem resets, bypassing your router, restarting your computer, running a virus scan, and other useless things.
this will not solve the problem and the person on the phone will recommend sending out a technician, only to repeat the entire cycle. ive been through it, others on these forums have been through it, and MANY other unsung Cox customers have been through it. they have you by the short hairs and they dont care. and people wonder why everyone hates their ISP.
you think yours is bad? this is actually BETTER than it usually is here:
