Internet crashing every time games or movies are played.

I have a two story house with two teenage boys who want to play XBox and watch Netflix but they can't play or watch for ten minutes without it crashing. I'm at wit's end and about to ditch Cox Cable. Even my Google TV losing connection and it's about two feet from my wireless modem.......Any suggestions?
