horrible connectivity issues

Ok the other night i went out and bought a second xbox so me and my wife could play a game together. Finally got it set up and attempted to start playing last night together. My or original xbox is a wired connection to my modem. My new xbox is set up via wifi. FOr the first several minutes we couldn't get the xboxs to respond. After that we would get booted from the game about every 5 minutes. Any idea what could be causing all this trouble? If i don't figure it out soon I will be switching internet providers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I suspect the problem is going to have to do with having 2 Xbox's connected to the same router.  The ability for the Xbox to host online gaming relies on forwarding specific ports through the router which cannot be done for more than one Xbox.  I think the best chance for resolution is going to be to disable any port forwarding you have configured and enable UPnP on the gateway as well as both Xbox's.

There isn't going to be a link or simple answer to this. What your describing is a networking issue. What kind of router/gateway do you have?

Also, what do you mean "couldn't get the Xbox to respond"? Do you mean they couldn't connect to the network? Connected but not online? Online but not connected to XBL?

well we had both xboxs turned on. i tried inviting my wife to a party she was across the house. then both of our xboxs just froze up. we also havent been able to send messages to people on our friends list or invite people to parties. then once we finally got into the game together we would get kicked from the servers about every 5 to 10 minutes. i will have to provide you with the router i have when i get home. I am currently at work.

So both Xboxs were able to initially connect to XBL?

Froze up how? Like what did you have to do to unfreeze it? Reboot the Xbox or just wait?

we had no problems connecting to xbox live. when they froze up i had to turn it off myself and restart the xbox everytime. had this happen 3 different times before it worked.

That doesn't sound like connection problem. Sounds more like Xbox problem, like maybe something wrong with the profile? Try clearing the cache. Also, have you tried calling Xbox support and asking why the Xbox freezes?  If your getting online and connecting to XBL, I don't see how it could be a ISP issue.
