I cannot send an outgoing email message.  When I try, I get a message that says the SMTP connection to server smtp.east.cox.net failed.  This just happened about a week ago.  I have been using this email account for years.  Help, please.

Can you post the entire error message? It should give a reason for failure.

1. Are you using a Cox email?

2. Are you on a Cox internet connection? Wired or wireless?

3. Do you know if your using SSL or password authentication on the outbound?

4. What kind of device? Ipad? Laptop? Desktop?

Depending on the program used you should get a error code or message for what is going on there for the outgoing server. Without knowing that it could really be anything. While the east server is still around the default outgoing server for us should be smtp.cox.net I would try changing to that server name first.

The most common cause for 0x800ccc92 is incorrect username or password.  Be sure the username does not have "@cox.net" on the end.  This can also be caused by anti-virus software blocking the mail server connection so that it can scan your email.
